Podium Premiere
The Concept
In this piece, I wanted to celebrate Oscar Piastri’s first ever win in Formula 1. A once in a career moment, and the first of many podiums to come.
I set out to capture him just after stepping out of the McLaren, hand raised for that first number one celebration. It was an incredible release of emotion, built on years of hard work from Oscar and the team behind him. You could feel the significance amnd emotion in that split second.
When developing the concept, I introduced a strong orange theme to represent McLaren. The abstract form sweeps through the portrait, carrying energy across the canvas and reinforcing the momentum and power of the moment.
I chose to create this work in a 1:1 ratio. I have always been drawn to the sturdy, balanced aesthetic of a square on the wall, and in this portrait it helped anchor Oscar within the movement and depth surrounding him.
Compositional energy
Is a key focus of my work, it’s all about the viewers experience and their journey through the painting.
The Painting
I created this piece in oil on a 1 x 1 metre stretched canvas.
The sweeping orange abstract form brought one of the most powerful and energetic colours to life, working in striking contrast against Oscar and his race suit. It marked a defining step in my recent portraiture, with a stronger focus on abstract depth and movement, using layered forms to build an immersive world around the subject.
Creating this piece was a hugely rewarding experience. It was shaped not only by time spent refining details in the studio, but also by the intensity of live painting in front of a packed crowd at Goodwood Revival 2025. That atmosphere fed directly into the energy of the work itself.
This portrait is about more than celebration. It is about transporting the emotion, power and significance of a historic moment, capturing the split second where years of dedication erupt into triumph.
