Fernando Alonso

The Wild West

The Concept

In this piece, I wanted to capture Aston Martin’s special Texas livery as a unique homage to the race’s location.

Every painting begins with an idea. A concept that forms the foundation of the final piece. When I begin developing an idea, I focus on creating a strong composition through line, structure, and movement. This early stage gives me the freedom to explore different directions and colour palettes, shaping both the emotional impact of the moment and the story being told.

For the Wild West, I came up with the concept of Fernando Alonso racing across the desert, drawing inspiration from classic western films. For a surreal piece like this, it was important to create a narrative. I chose to do this by painting three cowboys on horseback in hot pursuit. I have always loved a good western, especially Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Entering The heart of the Wild West

Working ffrom such rich inspiration was a real thrill, bringing this story to life, and creating a piece unlike anything before.

The Painting

I created this piece in oil on a 1 x 1 metre stretched canvas. The square canvas ratio is one of my favourite formats, offering the painting a strong presence on any collector’s wall.

Working on this piece was one of the greatest creative journeys, balancing detailed realism with my signature abstract world. Blending these two worlds in this manner is something highly unique to my work, and one of my favourite parts of the process was dusting, creating interaction between the subject and the world around it. I carried this approach across both the abstract and realistic elements, grounding them within the same piece.

The painting balances detailed realism with my signature abstract world, creating an energy of colour and atmosphere throughout the canvas. Colour, light, and composition work together to transport the viewer into the story of the scene, a staple of all my work. The final piece stands as one of the most creative and surreal works in the collection.
