KIMI ANTONELLI
The Concept
This piece began with Kimi Antonelli in the middle of a Mercedes pit stop. Created around the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, I worked on the painting live from the Escapade rooftop bar, bringing the piece together alongside the atmosphere of the race weekend.
I wanted to create a painting that was not just about the driver, but the whole moment around him. The speed, pressure and teamwork that all come together in a matter of seconds.
Kimi is only at the start of his Formula 1 career, but there is a real sense of energy, skill and momentum building around him. The title felt right because it reflected both the movement within the painting and the excitement of a young driver beginning to make his mark in Formula 1.
Composition was a big part of this piece from the beginning. With the car, pit crew, wheels and reflective bodywork all working together, it could easily have become too busy. I wanted the sweeping abstract forms to travel throughout the painting, bringing motion and balance while helping hold the whole composition together.

The Painting
The painting has a dark and dramatic feel, with Kimi and the Mercedes car brought out in focused light and reflection. This gives the piece a cinematic quality, while keeping Kimi at the centre of the moment.
The sweeping abstract forms move through the canvas, connecting the car, crew and background. They bring energy to the painting, but also help control the movement so the piece still feels balanced and easy to read.
This was one of those paintings where every part had to sit in the right place. The balance between detail, darkness, light and abstraction was key. My focus was on creating a piece that felt dramatic and full of movement, while still making sure Kimi remained the main focus of the painting.
